Buzzing around the World with Lisa Scerri from Mission Travel - HONEYMOONS

Being Marriage Week I thought we could look today at honeymoons!

Possibly the earliest reference to a honeymoon is in Deuteronomy 24:5 “When a man is newly wed, he need not go out on a military expedition, nor shall any public duty be imposed on him. He shall be exempt for one year for the sake of his family, to bring joy to the wife he has married.”

Top honeymoon spots

Most honeymoons are chosen for their romance factor – a place where the newlyweds can spend quality time together celebrating the beginning of their new life together.

Popular destinations include: Fiji, Hawaii, Thailand or some place that is warm, beachy & exotic.

Styles of honeymoons:

Tropical is definitely the most popular, but many grooms get bored sitting under a palm tree for too long. Often couples choose a destination they have always wanted to visit, eg Italy or USA and make their honeymoon the time to get there. Others love to hit the ski fields or hiking tracks or do something a bit more adventurous.

How to get spoilt on your honeymoon:

Tell everyone! Many hotels have added extras for honeymooners.
This can include:
1. Room upgrades
2. Flowers, chocolates or champers on arrival
3. Dinner for 2
4. Couples Massage

Always tell your travel agent and they will also put a note in your airline reservation – some airlines will give you a bottle of champers, a cake or even an upgrade to Business Class!!

What about a second honeymoon?

This is a great idea! To reinvigorate a marriage and celebrate what you have achieved. It is very popular if you have had kids and they are now old enough to be left with the grandparents or a friends place for a few days. Doesn’t have to be exotic – even a weekend alone in Daylesford would be wonderful.  You can revisit the place where you honeymooned or spenyt your wedding night or you could do something fun! My husband & I are celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary this year with a weekend to Sydney and the harbour bridge climb. For our 10th anniversary we went to Hamilton Island for 3 nights. So be creative, be secretive 7 surprise your spouse with a getaway to celebrate marriage!
