Healthy Heart Tips! with GI Jane O'brien

Here's a few of the latest tips to help keep your heart in tip top condition!

* Eat at least 3-5 serves of fruit and vegetables per day
Eat fruit and vegies that resemble the human heart - sound strange? In my opinion there's definitely something to this. eg tomatoes - if you chop one and half and take a look inside it looks like the 4 chambers of the heart!
Other great heart foods include red peppers, grapes and grapefruit is thought to give your arteries a good cleanse. (It's also good to eat some of the white/plith of the grapefruit)
* Try to minimise you intake of saturated/trans fats. Many margarines contain trans fats!
* Eat 5-6 small meals per day to regulate your cholesterol and blood sugars
* Keep well hydrated
* Aim to eat some good fats eg. flaxseed, linseed, olive oil
* Eat a variety of plant proteins eg. nuts, seeds and grains
* Eat plenty of fibre
Finally - exercise regularly!!!
