Read Psalm 119:145-152 My eyes anticipate thenight watches, that I may meditate on Your word. (v. 148) We are usually too busy for meditation, too busy to sit andsoak in a passage of Scripture and let its truth gradually unfold in our minds. But often the most beautiful jewels are buried the deepest and will never beseen by the casual reader or the academic studying on a merely intellectual level, but only by the one who takes time to meditate. Why don’t we take time to meditate? Are we too busy? Toodistracted? There’s always something that beckons on TV. And magazines enticeus with the latest news about celebrities. And we have a pile of great books toread. And there are people we want to hang out with. And there are the ministrycommitments we have to get done. But remember what Jesus said to Martha (Luke 10:40-42), whowas so distracted by the things she was doing and felt like Mary should bedoing the same instead of sitting and listening to Jesus? Jesus said to Martha,“You areworried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, forMary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” Is God inviting you tonight, instead of watching TV, to takesome time, like the psalmist, and use the “nightwatches” to meditate on His word? |
