Skiing -

What is so great about skiing?

It seems to be quite an addictive sport so beware if you are about to try it out for the first time – this could become an expensive hobby!

Carmen at Mission Travel is a ski junky and she loves it because:

·         The great outdoors – so beautiful to see gum trees in the snow

·         Cold, the excitement of snow

·         The exhilaration of skiing

·         Hard work though – need to be fit, especially if you ski overseas

Where is the best place to ski in Victoria?

Mt Hotham – village at the top of the mountain and you ski down (all the others the village is at the bottom and you chair lift up to the top)

Mt Buller – the largest and the most variety of runs, also the lowest so not always the best snow; Bourke St – really busy – beginners mixing with experienced = chaos!

Falls Creek – the prettiest & quite authentic European style chalets; well protected when the weather is bad

Helicopter between Mt Hotham & Falls Creek – ski at both resort in one weekend on one lift pass! It is only $125 return.

Family friendly day trips:

Lake Mountain – closest to Melbourne (160km) and a great intro to the snow – perfect to take the kids for the first time. They have a $35 entry fee until 26 June – bargain! Ideal for sled rides, snow tubing, tobogganing and playing in the snow.

Mt Baw Baw -

How to save money:

Don’t ski! Do tubing, tobogganing, snowboarding!

Lift & lesson packages – learn to ski as well as lift passes – save money and get taught properly!

Apartments instead of hotel so you can self cater

Stay off the mountain – Mt Beauty, Bright, Mansfield and drive up each day
