To Eat or Not to Eat Before Your Morning Work...

Thursday, 17 September 2009 by Cassie Nichols

One of the most commonly asked questions by people who like to workout in the morning is "Should I eat before I workout? Essentially there are two schools of thought.

1) If you eat before you exercise then you'll use the food you've just eaten for energy rather than fat you may be trying to shed

2) If you don't eat before you workout then you won't have the necessary energy to perform efficiently.

So which school of thought is right? Eating before a workout won't hinder your fat loss efforts so the answer comes down to is to do what is more comfortable for you. While it's technically true to say working out on an empty stomach may burn more fat during your workout, the extra fat burnt isn't very much. We're talking small gram amounts. If we were to examine the fat burned across a 24 hour period it would probably be quite similar whether or not you ate brekkie beforehand or not as long as you expend the same calories in the workout.
