Your Morning Blog (Oct 23rd)

Thursday, 23 October 2008 by Clayton Bjelan

darren_smith.jpgDownload for free the Podcast of this morning’s One-on-One with Darren Smith.  Darren played professional basketball in Australia for 10 years.  He told me about the struggles of moving his family around the country to play basketball, the constant comparisons to his brother (Jason Smith), who also plays basketball professionally.  And the day after his retirement – what was it like waking up being ‘retired’ at around 30 years of age.  We are going to continue to chat to Darren tomorrow about his role with Red Dust role models.

Damian Richmond gave me a call from the Nullarbor Roadhouse!!  He is currently riding his bicycle across Australia to raise money for Ugandan and Rwandan refugees.  He is hoping his trip from Perth to Melbourne will take him just  8 days (breaking the world record by 3 days!).  When I spoke to him he had already ridden 1700kms since Saturday - good luck Damian!  To find out more about the ride, and to donate to this great cause head to the Race Across Australia website.

In “Yesterday’s DiarySuzanne told us that she only realized the other day that the ClaytonBjelan that she had been listening to on-air was THE ClaytonBjelan that she went to school with.  I can confirm that yes I am that one!!

And all this week instead of the 3 question quiz we are running “Musical Heroes”…

…This is your chance to be a big winner with a host of prizes up for grabs (Silverwater resort weekend-aways, Food and Fuel vouchers and tickets to the IGeneration concert).  What you need to do is work out which song our musical challenge finalists are singing (they have the correct lyrics but not the right music)…Tim from West Heidelberg correctly identified the Jonas Brothers, ‘When you look me in the Eye’ – and picked himself up a voucher and concert tickets.  Rachel from Hoppers Crossing, also played, correctly identifying Delta Goodrem’s ‘Not Me, Not I’ and won a voucher and a family holiday!!!
