...and it doesn't come any bigger than this!
LightFM is facing the biggest financial challenge we’ve ever faced. It's a challenge that is key to us continuing to share the Message of Hope across Melbourne. It's so important because 'Greater Things' are yet to be done in this city. Simply put, we need your help in order to fulfill the vision we believe God has for LightFM.
Frequently asked questions
Why does LightFM need donors?
As you know, whether it’s a TV, a washing machine or a car, a few more dollars invested rewards you with extra features. Your partnership with LightFM supplies around half of our annual income – a huge investment! You make it possible for LightFM to reach the people of Melbourne with a Message of Hope.
What are the actual costs to run LightFM?
Three hundred dollars... per hour. Yes, that’s $7200 per day! Songwriter royalties, broadcast equipment, electricity, maintenance – these are the unavoidable, normal costs of keeping a transforming radio station on the air for you and your family.
How does LightFM impact people directly?
At LightFM we’re in the business of positively changing the lives of our listeners. By partnering with local organisations we’re able to deliver access to free support and prayer services in areas such as depression, financial hardship and loneliness. People can contact the Careline on 9583 CARE (2273) or can access Groundwire, our internet based support.
What are LightFM's greatest struggles in securing the new building?
The cost. It is amazing how much it takes to keep the station on air in order to meet our debts in a timely manner. The limitations imposed by our community radio licence constantly leave us with the need to rely on our supporters in order to keep LightFM on the air. That is a stark reality and whilst we strive to be the best stewards we can be in the use of these gifts, they really are vital to ensure the future of LightFM. Without our appeals and fund raising requests we would very soon be off the air.
LightFM has raised funds in recent appeals for the move to the new building. Is the money being reserved somewhere?
The money is in our Building Account ready for the moment we need it. Some of this has already been spent, and we now have to arrange for new studios to be installed, set up the master control room, fit out offices, and amongst many other things, pay for the actual moving-day costs into the building.
