Marriage Week

How amazing is an amazing marriage? I would love to think that you have or will experience this feeling at some point in your life if you haven't already.

Now I know that not everybody finds the 'right' person and also that sometimes things haven't worked out for those who thought they did find that 'right' person. I personally, LightFM, and Marriage Week is not here to judge or condemn but rather to build up, edify, and promote the 'ideal' as our society 'ideals'.

So often we allow ourselves and our society to settle for something that is OK, good enough, adequate for now, a good go. When we settle often even we reset what are the benchmarks down to a lower level. I believe that we shouldn't settle for an 'OK' culture because it's better than the 'terrible' we experienced growing up. We should strive for the best for ourselves, for our family, and for the greater community.

That's what Marriage Week is about for me. It's about setting ‘amazing’ as the benchmark for marriage culture rather than ‘OK’. It's about celebrating and supporting the effort it takes to transfer a marriage that is surviving into a marriage that is thriving.

Now I have been married a relatively short time compared to many couples but I don't take my six years lightly. Susie and I have worked so very hard to strive for our goal of an ‘extraordinary’ marriage. We have lost many hours sleep because it was OK to sleep on a gripe but it was ‘extraordinary’ for us to seek closure, forgiveness, and a goodnight kiss at 2am (when the alarm was going off for us to get into the radio studio by 5am). I have a long way to go in my life with Susie but survival is not my goal.

Join marriage week, LightFM, and myself in celebrating and supporting the ideal standard of the quality of marriage. See the marriage week website to find activities designed for the family and even some great ideas on a simple little step you can take to add a touch of romance to your extraordinary marriage.
