Matthew8:5-9
And when Jesus enteredCapernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him, and saying, “Lord, myservant is lying paralysed at home, fearfully tormented.” Jesus said to him, “Iwill come and heal him.” But the centurion said, “Lord, I am not worthy for Youto come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to thisone, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave,‘Do this!’ and he does it.”
“Lord, I am not worthy…butjust say the word”. There is a strong connection between humility and faith!
Youwill not find a proud man who also has great faith. The two will not gotogether! A proud man trusts in himself, or in his bank account, or in hisabilities, or his past success and achievements. A proud man rarely turns toGod in dependence, because he does not feel dependent on God. He may find thathe hardly ever thinks about God, even if he goes to church on Sundays.
Buta humble man knows how much he needs God. He knows that every good thing in hislife is because of God, not himself. And so he is able to trust in God for thenext thing as well.
