Hebrews7:25

Therefore He [Jesus] is ablealso to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since Healways lives to make intercession for them.

Inthis chapter of Hebrews, the writer is explaining Jesus’ death on the cross interms the Jews would understand. In Israel, the High Priest would sacrifice ananimal to atone first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people. Byoffering this sacrifice, the priest was interceding (being a ‘go-between’) forthe people.

Inthis word picture, Jesus is both the High Priest and the sacrifice that wasoffered. This verse says that because of this reality, our salvation is foreversecure. Jesus doesn’t save us until the next time we sin a really big sin; He “saves forever those who draw near to Godthrough Him.”

Why?Because He is always applying His sacrifice to our lives—“He always lives to make intercession” for us!

Jesuswants to reassure you today that if you have truly put your trust in Him forthe forgiveness of your sins, then the only way that you could lose your rightstanding with God the Father would be for God to decide that Jesus’ supremesacrifice was not enough to pay for your sins. What do you think are thechances of that?

Zero.
