Some females’ pet peeve is when men keep the toilet seat up.

Isaiah 59:1-21

Reference: v.16 He saw that there was no one,
he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;
so his own arm achieved salvation for him,
and his own righteousness sustained him.

Explore: I’ve discovered that I have a new pet peeve. For those unsure, a ‘pet peeve’ is something minor – even unimportant – that causes great irritation and annoyance.

Some females’ pet peeve is when men keep the toilet seat up. In the general scheme of life this is really irrelevant, however, it can cause great frustration to the female sex.

While the position of the toilet seat has never really concerned me, I can assure you there are other seemingly unimportant aspects in life that make my blood boil.

What’s more, it seems my pet peeves list is increasing. Here’s my latest…

Recently at work I was asked to send someone some details via text message. This certain someone held a higher position than I did in our organisation, and so, I was very prompt and clear with the task I had been asked to fulfil.

The superior spoke to me later that day, thanking me for my text and discussing its content. As they needed to forward this information onto others, they asked me to resend the information in an email.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am a touch-typist and send out copious amounts of emails every single day. Sending an email with the text message’s content would only take me approximately 40 seconds to complete.

My annoyance came from my superior changing his mind, yet putting the additional workload upon me, rather than taking responsibility for his change himself.

He had all the information he required and I had completed my original task. He has every right to change his mind, however, I found that he was abusing his superior position in making me do additional work just to make his life easier.

I know that this probably happens every single day in every organisation in every country all over the world! However, I personally struggle with people who shirk responsibility for their own workload.

Application: It seems that I am not the only one who has the pet peeve of shirking responsibility. Even God Himself struggles with those who are not accountable for their own actions.

He saw all across the world the sin and pain and grief that filled humanity. God looked for someone, just one, to do justice to save all people, and yet, He could not find anyone to stand in the gap.

Isaiah prophesizes of a time when God Himself is the only one willing to bring true justice to the world. And so, while everyone was living in selfishness, God sacrificed His only Son so that we could live a justified life.

My pet peeve is towards those who shirk their responsibilities, and yet, it seems that I am causing God to feel the same frustration!

No one of us can make humanity right, therefore, we are so thankful to a God who stood in the gap.

When our pet peeves occur and our frustrations towards others build, may we recognise that there are also things in our lives that need to be justified by Christ. Thank God He has paid the price.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for paying the price for our sin and inabilities. May we take hold of the new life that You have given us and live to bring justice for all. Amen.

What will you do with the life that Jesus has given to you today?
