Whatcha’ Watchin’ – Fuller House
Main article content
This is one for the mums who spent their childhood drooling over John Stamos and wishing they had the wardrobe of DeeJay Tanner!
Last year my eldest daughter asked if we could watch a show together. Her friends would sit up with their parents to watch particular shows and Francesca was eager to have a show to watch with me. I had a look at what was available and the first season of Fuller House had just been released on Netflix.
The series is designed to follow on from the original and replicates many of the elements of Full House. Set in the Tanner home, Fuller House is based around the life of widow and eldest Tanner daughter, DeeJay and her 3 sons. Much like her father did when DeeJay’s mother died, DeeJay invites her sister and best friend into her home to help raise her sons and support her through her grief and life moving on from her loss.
There is the quirky best friend who lived next door, Kimmie; the cool sister and aunty, Steph; the eldest son trying to be cool, the hilarious middle son and the adorable baby; and, of course, the dog, Cosmo, with an impeccable sense of comic timing. Clip For those people coming back to the Tanner family after 20 years there is plenty to recognise.
The house is the same- I think even the couch is the same one! Danny Tanner, Uncle Jesse, Uncle Joey and Aunt Beccie make regular appearances. DeeJay, Steph and Kimmie look nothing like the kids you remember, but have unique personalities you will recognise immediately!
Although the show is very clean and DeeJay is far too happy almost all the time, they also manage to confront some of the issues families cope with- kids lying or sneaking out and repercussions of those decisions; body image; peer pressure and more. It’s a great watch with the kids or if you have a bout of nostalgia!
